Its been very hot here but looks like we are in for a week of less than 90 degrees. Early and late are the best fishing times. For the last 10 days or so the best has been from about 3 until 7 in the afternoon. There has been a little more flow at this time and the fish have really fed good. Couple of pigs caught on Ky Lake Tuesday. The weathers hot the fishing was hotter.
Water is still a little high and dirty but it didn't keep the Bluegill and Shellcracker from biting.
High water is making fishing tough. This photo is of a swimming pool on the lake. We have an extra 7 feet and may get a couple more this week. Catfish have been pretty good. Bluegill and shellcracker should get better as the water stabilizes. Be safe out there. There is a lot of trash out there.
Terrible conditions
forecast for the weekend. Had several good bass today and the big
one did get away. John jumped off a fish I thought to be over 8 lbs
at the boat. Full moon this weekend and lots of spawning going on. A little break from a busy crappie season. Back to the lake tomorrow.
I think we have had a
good spawn from both black and white crappie. They have slowed a bit
so I am shifting my attention to shellcracker. They should be hot
until mid may or longer. These are a few males we caught today. Two hawgs caught this morning in Bloodriver. It was just two of us today. Woody's fishing partner Pat couldn't make this trip so we left a few for next year. There are some of the biggest white female crappie out there I have ever seen. Guy from Lexington had a 3.1 at Irvin Cobb this morning. He said he caught her in a foot of water in a stake bed. She looked like she had spawned out already. I have caught a truck load of 2 pounders but am still looking for that one over 3 pounds. Storms last night and cold this morning made for tough conditions. When the going gets tough the tough go fishing. We ended the day with 36 keepers.
A great day with with two very good fisherman. We fished in
Bloodriver and ended the day with 44 keepers. All were caught
casting to spawning flats in Blood. We caught a bunch of yellow bass
as well. April 2, 2010
27 keepers in Bloodriver on a windy day. Fish are moving in so get ready for the best week we have had in a while.
Water rising rapidly is causing fishing to be a little tough. We are still getting some good catches. Hope the water level stabilizes soon.
A nice catch in Blood
River. Black and white crappie have started to move shallow and are
hitting good. All the fish we caught today were in 10 to 12 feet and
were caught casting curly tails and slider grubs. They should move
in good in the next couple days. 36 keepers including this 2.75 hawg. Fish bit good most of the day but did slow toward afternoon. The morning bite has been best for us.
A rainy day in Bloodriver was a little tough. We caught 15 in a half day all by drift fishing flats in Bloodriver. Today fish were down in the bottom of the creek channel in 16 to 17 feet.
Vito, Tony and me had
a great day in Blood River. We had 37 keepers some of which were big
white crappie. The wind was up so we drifted flats in the sheep
ridge area. Pink/clear tail was one of our best colors. Most of the
fish were in 16 feet of water but only 10 feet down. Get out there
and get you some!
Huge catch for a
couple of great guys from Chicago. They flew down for a day and a
half of fishing and it was awesome. Jigs fished over 16 foot ledges
in the powerline area of Big Sandy was the ticket today. Lime green
with white tail was our best color. This one is a hawg! Just fished a half day and had 21 keepers. Fished flats in Bloodriver. There are some giants in here this year.
Today was a little
strange. We fished from 6 to 10 o'clock with only 8 keepers then
they started. It was wide open for about two hours .Then they just
shut down. We ended the day with 52 keeper crappie. All were caught
in 15 feet of water on tubes fished vertical.
This is Gene and
Darrel from Bell County Ky. We caught there 60 crappie in Big Sandy
today. Fish were really fired up today. They ranged from 10 to14
feet deep. A pink/chart Bobby Garland slug was our best of the day.
Lots of little black crappie in there now. We must of thrown back as
many as we kept.
Weather finally got
warm enough for a bass fishing trip. This one was almost 5 lbs. We
had 7 other keepers with one more about 5.5 lbs. All the keepers
came on bandit crankbaits in 4 to 7 feet of water. The main lake was
a couple degrees warmer than the bays but most of our fish came in
the bays.
Just a couple of two
limits caught on Thursday. Ice was a problem early but cleared out
quick. The fish were in 8 to 12 feet and were pretty aggressive. A
green tube with clear sparkle tail was the ticket today. Out of 60
fish we had 55 white crappie. Going to BloodRiver tomorrow.
Snow didn't keep the
crappie from biting today. I went by myself and caught 30 nice
keepers. Water temp was only 37 degrees. Got clients Friday so hope
they keep biting.
This weather is
terrible just when we get conditions right the snow and rain come
back. Gives me some time to put out some more piles. Later this week
looks fishable to me so check back for more pix.
This photo is the end
of a great day on the lake. We caught 40 keepers and had a great day
to do it in. Mostly white crappie in our creel today. Fish were in
10 to 12 feet of water. These fish really moved up with this rising
water. Lake levels will crest tonight and start to fall tomorrow.
This is one of 42
keepers we caught in big sandy Wednesday. The bite was in 12 to 14
feet on jigs. The flats had very little action. All the fish came on
slight changes in depth around creek channels in the west sandy
area. We had mostly black crappie and a lot of non keepers.
This photo was 25
nice keepers from big sandy today. All these came from 22 to 25 feet
deep on ledges. Jigs fished slow were the best for us. Heard two
other good reports from Bloodriver yesterday. Looks like rain and
wind Thursday but I will be back out on Friday. Fishing was tough today. We snagged this Asian carp below the dam. Hoping the ice gets off the lake soon. Might try Big Sandy on Saturday.
Looks like rain until after Christmas but they bit good today. Maybe the water won't get dirty or come up to much. These fish were 20 to 24 feet. Our jigs had to be presented very slow. Just hovering over the structure was the pattern today. 40 slabs caught before noon in below freezing weather. These fish got deeper today they mostly came out of 25 to28 feet. All were caught on jigs. Stinger tails in purple/chart was best. Only 3 black crappie out of 40. These fish were hitting at daylight when it was only 22 degrees.
